When you are going through a season of discouragement, where do you turn?
One of the main reasons we feel discouraged is fatigue. We are physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually drained. When we are discouraged, we want to quit. We don’t feel our best, and we can’t focus on the good things.
But we also need to remember that discouragement doesn’t have to be permanent. In the end, it’s only temporary.
If you are in a season of discouragement, then you have come to the right place. In this article, I share some tips for overcoming discouragement that I have found to be helpful in my life.
Not everything may apply directly to you, but I hope you find it helpful and insightful.
Encourage Yourself in God’s Word
There are many ways to combat discouragement and overcoming it takes effort, courage, and confidence in Jesus.
While Satan comes with negative thoughts and feelings, God comes with words of encouragement, faith, and comfort. By applying the words of the Bible to your life, you will be able to work towards overcoming discouragement and block the negativity of Satan.
However, sometimes the discouragement you feel is because of disappointment with God. Perhaps you have worked hard for something and it didn’t turn out the way you thought it would. Maybe you prayed your heart out, and felt the prayer went unanswered.
But God’s Word says that when you let Him be your motivation, He will strengthen you and help you. We don’t always know why things happen in our lives or our work, and must remember that God has a reason for everything.
Read and study the Bible and let God’s Word be your guide.
Get Support From Godly People
Getting support from godly people can help us overcome discouragement.
Whether it’s an upcoming deadline, a hard task, or a never-ending project, getting support from the people around you can make a huge difference.
Whether they help you get past a difficult part of a project, or simply give you an encouraging word when you feel at your lowest; it can mean the difference between victory and defeat.
Scripture gives us powerful examples of how surrounding yourself with the right people can help you get through seasons of darkness.
Worship Music Can Help Overcome Discouragement
Listening to worship music can encourage you and lift your spirits, giving you enough energy to keep working toward your goals.
Regardless of what stage of life you are in, there is a worship song out there that you will connect with. This song (or songs) can do amazing things to take your focus off of what is making you feel down.
Worship songs also remind us of God’s love, and that with His strength, we can get through any hardship.
Pray For God To Help You Overcome Your Discouragement
One of the best ways I’ve found to deal with discouragement is by praying to God and expressing how I feel. The Bible tells us that we must remember God’s goodness and His faithfulness, and we must wait on Him.
Discouragement can be crippling and rob us of our courage. Therefore, it’s crucial to pray to the Lord each day for help and guidance.
If possible, consider setting trying a prayer schedule so each day you have time set aside to talk to God.
Consider A Christian Counselor In Your Battle With Discouragement
If you continue to feel discouraged after all of these methods, it may be time to seek out professional help.
When things are not going well in life it is helpful to get an objective person to work through issues and circumstances. We all go through times that are difficult.
Sometimes it is very clear what the issue or problem is that we may be dealing with. But many times, there are numerous things, which can make it difficult to put your finger on.
