The firm's senior attorney, Michael Jones, was born in Atlanta, Georgia, in the 1960s. He attended Mercer University for his undergraduate studies, where he graduated with honors. He studied at Harvard University for business school. In 1993, he graduated from Georgia State College of Law and was admitted to practice law in the state of Georgia. He is also admitted to practice law multiple states, including Georgia and California. He has been an attorney for approximately 25 years.He has lived in California for approximately 15 years. As a Solider, he has deployed overseas into combat zones in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He holds a high-level security clearance with the Department of Defense. Within the Army, he has worked as an instructor of other attorneys in training on matters of consumer protections, including the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, and the Fair Credit Reporting Act. His current assignment is as the Command Judge Advocate for the 79th IBCT in San Diego, California.His civilian legal practice involves primarily consumer bankruptcy work, as well as related consumer protection matters, and criminal defense. He is a member of the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys. He is strongly motivated to help consumers who are abused and mistreated by creditors and collection agents as permitted under the Bankruptcy Code and Federal Consumer Protection laws such as the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. A primary motivation for working in these areas is a desire to provide a ministry to the poor and oppressed segment of our society.One other area that he works in regularly is labor and employment law as it relates to employees that have been abused or exploited by their employers. There are some businesses that have a business model of cheating their employees regarding their pay and compensation, knowing that the amounts involved are often too small for an attorney to take the case. We usually take the case regardless of the amount involved. We seek justice for those who have been abused.Regarding his criminal defense work, Michael frequently notes that a person has an absolute right to assert their rights under the law, and that includes requiring the government to prove that a person is guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. He is an active member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. Within the Army, Michael serves as the Senior Defense Counsel for Trial Defense Services (“TDS”) in California. TDS is essentially the Army’s public defender office, and has a total of 300 attorneys that provide all the criminal defense for the Army throughout the entire world.
