Halftime: A Mid-Year Check-In for Business Leaders

This article was written by Chad Schoonmaker and published by Crossroads Professional Coaching.
We’re at Halftime
Not the fun kind where you jog into the locker room up by two touchdowns and get to enjoy the halftime show.
More like the kind where someone asks, “Can you believe it’s already July?” and you immediately start doing mental math to figure out where the last six months went.
Back in January, you probably had goals.
Maybe a word for the year.
A new planner?
Maybe you downloaded a productivity app that’s now buried somewhere on your phone.
Fast forward to today…
Business happened.
Life happened.
Customers happened.
The plan got tested, adjusted, ignored for a while, and hopefully improved along the way.
Whether you’re ahead of schedule or just trying to keep your head above water, this is a good time to pause before the second half starts.
1. Your Vision: Is It Still the Right One?
Here’s something I’ve learned.
Six months has a funny way of humbling all of us.
The goals you set in January were based on what you knew then.
Now you know more.
Maybe you landed clients you never expected.
Did the market shift?
Maybe your biggest opportunity wasn’t even on your radar six months ago.
Or maybe you’ve realized one of your goals sounded really good in January… but, if we’re being honest, isn’t worth chasing anymore.
That’s not failure.
That’s just decision making.
The goal isn’t to stubbornly stick to the original plan or else!
The goal is to keep moving forward.
2. How’s the Team Doing?
Workplace culture usually doesn’t explode one day.
It leaks.
One difficult conversation gets avoided.
One great employee starts checking out.
A teammate stops speaking up because they don’t think anyone’s listening anymore.
Those little moments add up.
That’s why a simple one-on-one conversation can tell you more about the health of your business than another spreadsheet ever will.
3. Speaking of Spreadsheets…
Waiting to look at your numbers in Q4 is kind of like checking the fuel gauge after you’ve already run out of gas.
Helpful?
Sure.
A little late?
Also yes.
Take a look today.
Now gives you enough information to make better decisions and enough time to actually do something about them.
If you’re not sure where to start, give us a call. We’re happy to help make sense of your numbers.
It doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Give us a call today!
4. How Are YOU Doing?
Are you actually resting?
And I don’t mean scrolling your phone on the couch until midnight because your brain refuses to shut off.
Real rest.
The kind that leaves you with more energy tomorrow than you had today.
Business owners are really good at convincing themselves they’ll rest after this busy season.
Funny thing is…
There’s always another busy season.
Take. A. Nap!

Halftime Adjustment
Here’s the good news.
You don’t have to start over.
You don’t need a brand-new plan.
No need to panic because January didn’t go exactly the way you hoped.
You just need to make a good halftime adjustment.
The second half of the year is still yours to shape.
Take an honest look at your vision.
Check in with your team.
Know your numbers.
Take care of yourself.
Then get back in the game.
You’ve still got plenty of clock left.
